Brendan Tierney – Event Founder

After a two-year hiatus, the So Funny Sligo Comedy Festival is back this November with event organiser Brendan Tierney crowdfunding to try to make it ‘bigger, better, and more visible’ than ever before.

Debuting in 2019, Brendan says he started the festival to try and fill the gap in a traditionally quieter month with five headline acts confirmed for Anderson’s from November 15 to 19, including Kendy and Raybo, Neil Delamere, Sharon Mannion, Kevin McGahern, and Emma Doran.

“I run a small marketing and events company and for years I had been working in venues booking different kinds of gigs in Sligo, one I always loved was comedy and in 2019 I started the festival for the first time,” Brendan said.

“Thankfully, it was a big success with sell out gigs, but then it lost a lot of the momentum with Covid.”

Brendan says while some say there is no worse month to put on the festival than November, he sees it as an opportunity to do his bit to help attract tourists, fill hotels and bars, and support the local economy, stating he would love to see the festival continue to grow and expand into a major event over the next few years.
